Fuengirola

Located only 25km from Malaga Airport is the town of Fuengirola – one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol. This buzzing cosmopolitan town is easily accessible by road, rail, or bus, it is not difficult to see why the Mediterranean is the number one choice for so many.

Attractions

Arab Castle
Fuengirola has many historic monuments and open parks. The most ancient of these is the Arab Castle, built by Abd-ar-Rahman III in the 10th century. It is still in use today as a festival and concert venue in the summer.
The marina
The port is divided into two zones. One side is the designated fishing area. Vessels go out to sea everyday and bring back fresh fish for the local market. On the other side of the port you will find the private marina and tourist attractions. Within the marina there are many companies offering fishing trips, jet skiing, scuba diving, boat hire, pleasure trips, glass bottom boat trips and even parasailing! The port is also full of restaurants, bars and cafés.
Bio park
For a lovely day out visit the award-winning Fuengirola Bio Park. It is very animal friendly, quite small and therefore perfect for the little ones. The park is focused on endangered and exotic animals. One can also enjoy the moonlight area where you can watch the nocturnal activities of the animals, such as bats or leopards.

At the Beach

Fuengirola enjoys 8 kms of sandy beaches lined with one of the longest promenades on the Costa del Sol. Well serviced with bars and restaurants, sunbeds and fun activities, it is the perfect location for a family summer holiday. All of Fuengirola’s beaches have been awarded European Blue Flags for cleanliness. The 3 main beaches are Las Gaviotas, Santa Amalia and Torreblanca-Carvajal, all of which are very popular.

Shopping

Fuengirola was previously a small fishing village but has become a vibrant city with character. The arrival of many elegant shops, shopping malls and markets, as well as beautiful beaches and a rich nightlife makes Fuengirola in Malaga province on the Costa del Sol a perfect destination.

In and around Plaza de la Constitucion, there are many designer clothing stores, interesting boutiques and the popular chain Stores.

Visit the large shopping centre Centro Comercial Parque Miramar, The mall opened its doors in 2004 and has 130 shops and restaurants – spread over 119,000 m2. There is also a 12 movie theatre and supermarket. Just outside the Parque Miramar there are both taxi and bus stops.

Sports

Fuengirola’s population is generally very active and this is proven by an abundance of sporting facilities. Water sport lovers can try fishing, diving, swimming or sailing. If water doesn’t do it for you, try tennis, golf or cycling. Fuengirola’s beaches have designated areas for specific sports like volleyball, wind-surfing, jet skiing, etc. Also available are yacht and boat charters and evening cruises, which can be found in the port.
