Benalmadena

Benalmadena is a municipality in the province of Malaga and consists of three main areas: Benalmadena Pueblo, Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel. The city of Malaga (and the nearest airport) is about 12 km to the west, and Marbella is 42 km to the east. The area has grown rapidly in recent decades due to tourism and has become one of the Costa del Sol's prime investment areas and holiday spots.

Benalmadena enjoys a subtropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. Cooling breezes from the sea make the summer heat manageable, temperatures are an average of 30 ºC in summer and 17 ºC in winter.

With a wide and varied array of activities, no visitor will be bored when visiting Benalmadena, a town which is more than just a resort.

Selwo Marina

Selwo Marina is a sea life park that is home to many plant and animal species from all over the world, including dolphins, penguins, sealions, exotic birds, crocodiles, snakes, piranhas, anacondas, sea rays and much more. What’s more, Selwo Marina is a conservation centre where you can learn about how to respect and protect animals’ natural habitats.

Butterfly Park

In this spectacular Butterfly Park, next to the Thai temple, you can walk amongst more than 1,500 exotic butterflies from around the world, flying freely in a tropical paradise between waterfalls and flowers.

Cable Car

Take a return cable car ride from Benalmádena and get one of the best views of the Costa del Sol.

Stupa Buddhist temple

This Buddhist temple was inaugurated in 2003, and at 33 metres tall and 25 metres across the base is the largest in the western world. It is crowned by a golden dome.

At the Beach

Benalmadena Costa has 10kms of beach. From the quiet cove to the family focused beaches with plenty of activities. The beaches are a mixture of man-made, golden sand and shingle, all are generally well maintained and clean. Take relaxing stroll along the Paseo Marítimo and enjoy all that Benalmadena has to offer.

Shopping

Benalmadena offers many shopping options. The area has a wide range of large and smaller shops along with weekly markets to choose from.

The Marina in the port area is a very picturesque location with a small shopping street that winds around the harbour, with around 200 stores, including stylish boutiques such as the wonderful Kenrod, Bitacora, Regalia, and Zerima.

The Plaza Mayor Shopping Park is your best bet for all the big names, this shopping centre is located before Malaga city about 8km. Here you will be able to find entertainment, food and of course many of the largest high street stores and brands. With plenty of parking and inexpensive and easy rail links, it’s definitely one of the best places to shop near Benalmadena.

Sports

The sports offered in Benalmadena are varied and covers all sorts of activities. Whether it´s sea, sky or mountain sports you want there are plenty of activities to choose from. Naturally, being a coastal town, Benalmadena offers facilities to practice any water sport you can think of or if you enjoy nature, then you could go hiking in Monte Calamorro.

As befitting a coastal town in southern Spain, Benalmádena has a wide selection of restaurants, including many specialising in the healthy, Mediterranean cuisine, particularly the delicious region paella. The area around the marina, has a good range of fresh fish restaurants, and you’ll also find every other type of food, from Argentinian steaks to Middle East, Indian, French and Italian.
